I was on the course, and am friends with the course leader. So i do have an inside track on it bud.

The course title of Abertay University is ‘Ethical Hacking & Countermeasures’ and it is accredited by BCS. So I don’t think they have a problem with ‘Hacking’ in the title.

Yeah the BCS isn’t too cool about the term hacking, however they are a little goosed as on their board is Pete Wood who runs one of the first UK pen testing companies First Base.

Abertay got accreditation last year, but it was touch and go for a wee while.

Thanks for the post,
now I’m really thinking about attending a foreign university
I have two questions for you guys:

is there a way to mitigate the University fees? since as far as I saw it costs like 8000£ which means 1000£/month to live :(

and where can I find some reviews from the students?

I know Northumbria is not either due to the BCS not liking the term ‘hacker/hacking’ to be in a course tittle. I suspect other courses with the term in will also not be BCS accredited, I am unsure tho.

I could find that the ‘Ethical Hacking & Countermeasures’ degree in Abertay University is accredited by The British Computer Society. What about the degrees by the other universities ?

I was thinking about a post grad degree in ethical hacking. You should publish MSc courses as well. Newcastle uni and sheffield uni do them as far as I no.
